Gretchen Sampsen, M.S., L.Ac., first encountered eastern medicine while living in South Korea, where she taught English for two years after completing a B.A. from Oberlin College.  A martial arts injury landed her in the acupuncture clinic, where her sprained knee was successfully treated with acupuncture and herbs. Impressed by how concepts of an anatomy of energy could translate into an effective practice of healing and promoting health, Gretchen pursued a four-year graduate course in Traditional Chinese Medicine at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in New York, NY.
Since completing her M.S. in Chinese Medicine in 2002, Gretchen has continued to deepen her knowledge of Chinese medicine with post-graduate studies in functional gynecology and fertility with Elaine Stern.  She is trained in Contemporary Chinese Pulse Diagnosis, a system that is particularly helpful for diagnosing imbalances commonly encountered in modern times. She also completed a 60 hour training in a protocol (the NADA protocol) used to support the recovery from addiction, at Lincoln Hospital Recovery Center.  Ten years after her first time in Asia, Gretchen was thrilled to travel with a group of practitioners to Beijing, China, to follow the clinical practice of Dr. Wang Ju-Yi, an internationally respected senior practitioner and teacher of the meridian system, which is at the core of Chinese medical theory.

Gretchen is board-certified in acupuncture and herbal medicine by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and is licensed
to practice acupuncture in the state of New York. She has maintained a private practice in New York for seven years.
